The inaugural Next Gen Showdown is set to form part of the 2023 racing calendar at Northline Speedway on 26th – 27th May.
Over the last five years, the Junior Sedan division has been on a journey at Northline Speedway. The division achieved great success after hosting the Australian Title in 2017 with 60 competitors coming from far and wide. Shortly thereafter, the division endure a hard struggle with car count for multiple years and through the hard-work for the Darwin Junior Sedan Club, the division is set to deliver up to 25 committed young competitors for the season.
Through a strong funding and training program, the Darwin Junior Sedan Club were able to support emerging competitors in a car for the season and allowed families to ensure the sport was the right fit before making a significant cash investment. This has been instrumental in developing the section and igniting the Speedway bug in local families.
As part of Northline Speedway’s Strategic Plan (2023-2025), the committee are focussed on supporting and nurturing the next generation of the sport – both on and off the track. Northline Speedway’s profile has risen over recent years for its success in delivering one of Australia’s biggest Sprintcar events, Chariots of Thunder and has now set their eyes on developing a major event for junior competitors known as the NEXT GEN SHOWDOWN.
The team at Northline Speedway are working hard behind the scenes to not only deliver an amazing event but also develop a legacy plan that brings tangible outcomes to the promotion and growth of junior racing in Speedway. Northline Speedway President, Caleb Gotts said “the Junior Sedan division have it harder than any section, there is an expiry date on how long competitors remain involved before moving on to a senior division. We also don’t take lightly the importance of this division in ensuring the future success of the sport. We are committed in our dedication towards the next gen and hope this event can demonstrate that.”
Further information on this event to follow in the New Year, we encourage all junior competitors throughout Australia to ear-mark the 26th – 27th May 2023 in their calendars.
